How the café works, and what to do when something goes wrong.
Café Life · updated 17 September 2026
What is Café Life?
You run a small café on a shopping street, one season at a time. Each season you choose what goes on the menu board, watch the service, close up and decide what to spend the takings on. The years pass, the street changes around you, and the regulars who keep coming back get older with you.
How does a season work?
Three steps, and none of them keeps you waiting. Set the board with the dishes you want to sell. Open, and watch the service play out — who comes in, what they order, what they leave behind. Then close, read what the season earned, and spend it on seats, fittings, recipes, staff or a new branch. Four seasons make a year.
Why can’t I put everything on the menu?
Because the board has fewer slots than you have recipes, and that is the game. What you leave off is as much a decision as what you put on — a regular who does not find their usual has less reason to come back tomorrow. More slots are one of the things you can buy with the takings when you close.
How do I get new recipes?
Buy them on the shop screen as the café can afford them. Later you can also invent your own from something already in the book; an invented recipe is recorded in the cookbook with the name of whoever invented it and the year, and it stays in the café after they are gone.
Who are the regulars, and why do they matter?
Most of the people who come in are passers-by. A handful are regulars — named people with a usual order and a life going on outside your café. Serving someone their usual brings them back more often and moves their story on; a board without it does the opposite. They are the only customers who visibly age.
Does the game save? Can I lose my café?
It saves by itself, on your device, as you play — there is no save button to forget and no save slot to choose. Closing the app, or your phone closing it for you, does not cost you the café.
The one thing that removes it is removing the app. See deleting game data below.
Can I play offline?
Yes. The game itself makes no network requests, so a bad signal or no signal makes no difference to play. The one exception is the optional full-game purchase: buying it, or restoring it on a new phone, goes through Apple and may need a connection. Nothing about your café is uploaded anywhere — see the privacy policy.
What happens when the owner gets old?
You hand the keys to the next generation. The café passes on whole — the room, the seats and fittings, the cookbook and the branches — but the money does not, because there are other children and they take their share. You carry on as the new owner, and regulars whose story has finished make way for people you have not met.
Can I start a completely new café?
Not from inside the app in this build. Handing over the keys is the fresh start the game offers, and it keeps what the café has built. To begin again from an empty room in 1996, remove the app and install it again — that clears the save with everything else.
We would rather it were a menu item, and it is on the list.
Is there any sound?
No. This build plays no music or sound effects and uses no vibration, so nothing needs muting and nothing will interrupt whatever you are listening to.
How do I delete game data?
Remove the app from your phone. That deletes the save along with it, because the save is stored inside the app and nowhere else. There is no account to close and no request to send us — we hold nothing about your café to delete. Device backups and offloading may keep a copy according to your own settings.
Something looks wrong — a missing picture, a stuck screen
Close the app fully and open it again; your café will be where you left it. If it happens a second time, write to us with the details below, because a fault that survives a relaunch is one we want to see.
